Brad Holton Canyon County Commissioner

 Who I Am

  • A lifelong resident of Canyon County and a local small business owner for more than 43 years.

  • Married for 45 years to his best friend, Laura, I have a daughter & son, & four grandchildren

  • Currently serving in my 27th year as mayor of The City of Greenleaf.

  • President of Treasure Valley Partnership for 2022. *

  • Small city advocate to the chairman of the Association of Idaho Cities Legislative Committee.

I have enjoyed living in Canyon County in an agricultural area. Staying connected to agriculture has been a joy in my life.

I am a business owner and employer, producing products that are sold around the world. Dealing with cash flow, payroll, and providing a flourishing environment for my employees.

I had the privilege of being the chairman of a non-profit Christian camping organization, working with a broad spectrum of talented individuals to provide a place of rest and rejuvenation for all ages and denominations.

I believe that being a good neighbor means giving back to the community and I find I do this best by being a public servant. I have held the office of Mayor for 27 years and would like the opportunity to serve the residents of Canyon County through the capacity of commissioner.

Family

I have been happily married to my best friend for over 45 years and we have two children who are married. We have 4 grandchildren.

We also own a fun, furry, four legged family member, Jack…an Irish Wolfhound!

I am an active member of a local congregation and also involved in the greater denomination organization in the Northwest.

I want to acknowledge that my country and the sacrifices made for it has allowed me to pursue my dreams. The right afforded to us through our constitution makes us a great nation.

A Thriving Career

  • Following a restart of Greenleaf City government in June 2004 I was appointed Mayor. Then I was reelected for five additional four year terms since.

  • All four Greenleaf City Council members and all city staff have fully encouraged me to run for County Commissioner and fully endorse me.

  • I have been a consistent proponent of emergency preparation and continue to encourage citizens of Greenleaf in how to shelter in place during an emergency. I currently work with Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), the Department of Homeland Security, and neighboring cities to educate the community on emergency preparedness issues in Canyon County.

  • I am an active member and officer of the Treasure Valley Partnership of Mayors and County Commissioners from Ada, Canyon and Owyhee Counties.

  • I have participated in the Lower Boise Watershed Council.

  • Experienced in working with many governmental agencies, i.e., Police, Prosecuting Attorneys, EPA, IDEQ, USDA-RD, SWDH, Lower Boise Watershed Council, Army Corps of Engineers, Golden-Gate Highway District as well as our Idaho State Representatives and Senators.

  • I actively work with neighboring cities to reduce overall costs and share workforce when possible.

  • As a current local mayor I take my duty to be transparent and accountable to the public extremely serious. I expect it not only of myself but of all the public servants under my direction.

A few concerns I am looking forward to addressing as your County Commissioner are…

  • Canyon County’s disparity between residential property taxes rising while other taxing categories, i.e. commercial/industrial, are stagnated or have fallen since 2017.

  • That commissioners administrate county government as efficiently and transparently as possible.

  • The unprecedented growth in Canyon County. (Where growth does not pay its way, I am an advocate for the existing taxpayer.)

  • Protecting and enhancing our agricultural community, and addressing water quality.

  • Run public meetings fairly and efficiently to bring a positive light on county government.

  • As mayor my core principles have been integrity and a high value of civil responsibilities, while treating everyone as fair as possible. I have demanded this not only of myself but my fellow city servants as well.

  • Finding solutions for our taxpayers on fixed incomes as well as our retired homeowner’s being hit with rising costs.

I am ready and willing to use my leadership skills and experience to lead Canyon County as a commissioner with DEMONSTRATED INTEGRITY!
